TAPPAHANNOCK POLICE MAKE ARREST IN AUGUST BREAKING & ENTERING'S

 

The Tappahannock Police Department has made an arrest in multiple breaking & entering’s that occurred in August of this year.  Kyle Lee George, 30 of White Stone, VA has been charged with the burglaries of both Dr. Hollis Wolcott’s and Dr. William Ryan’s offices as well as attempted breaking and entering at the Tappahannock Pharmacy and the Tappahannock/Warsaw Moose Lodge.  George was also charged with a residential burglary to a home on Jeanette Drive. 

 

After an extensive investigation by Detective R.C. Beynon along with the assistance of Investigator Sean Hogge of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office, evidence was developed which led to George’s arrest.  George has been charged with 5 counts of Breaking and Entering; 4 counts of Destruction of Property; 2 counts of Grand Larceny; 1 count of Credit Card Theft; and 1 count of Eluding Police.  George has also been charged with multiple burglaries in Lancaster and Northumberland counties. 

 

“This is a case where patience and great police work led us to Mr. George”, said Chief James G. Ashworth, Jr. 

 

George is currently being held in the Lancaster County Jail pending trial. 

 

 

 

TAPPAHANNOCK POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

The Tappahannock Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours of August 22.  At approximately 5:55 am, officers responded to the area of Marsh Street and Route 17 and found two vehicles with extensive damage.  The investigation at the scene indicated that Lottie M. Taliaferro of Tappahannock was driving a 2002 Izuzu east on Marsh Street at an excessive rate of speed when she disregarded the stop sign and struck a 2001 Chrysler on Rt. 17 driven by Kristi S. Johnson of Tappahannock.  Johnson was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene.  Taliaferro was transported to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and later flown to VCU Medical Center.

 

The crash remains under investigation by the Tappahannock Police Department. 

 

 

 

TAPPAHANNOCK POLICE AND ESSEX SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO HOLD DRUG TAKE BACK

On Saturday September 27, 2014 the Tappahannock Police Department and Essex County Sheriff’s Office will once again participate in the National Drug Take Back Initiative from 10am-2pm at Wal-Mart on Tappahannock Blvd.    Officers will be on hand to collect unneeded or expired medication for disposal.  No syringes or illicit drugs will be accepted. 

 

The National Drug Take Back Initiative is a program sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration aimed at removing dangerous medication from home that is no longer needed for proper disposal.  The Tappahannock Police and Essex Sheriff’s Office has removed nearly 250 pounds of drugs in the previous collection events.

TAPPAHANNOCK POLICE CHARGE SECOND PERSON IN JULY 3 STABBING

The Tappahannock Police Department has charged a second man in connection with the July 3, 2014 stabbing at Tappahannock Greens. Troy Lamont Burrell, 52 of Tappahannock has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding.  Burrell and another man, Michael Deyo were involved in an altercation that resulted in both men being stabbed.  Deyo has already been charged in relation to this incident with malicious wounding. 

 

Both men are due in the Essex General District Court on September 11, 2014.

 

 

 

TAPPAHANNOCK POLICE INVESTIGATING TWO ASSAULT CASES

On June 30, 2014, at 2:45 pm, Tappahannock Police was called to 423 Virginia Street regarding a fight against several individuals.  It was determined that the altercation had taken place between John W. Richards, age 42, of Tappahannock, and Harley D. Thacker, age 36, also of Tappahannock.  The altercation had taken place inside Richard’s residence and then had continued out onto Virginia Street.  Mr. Thacker’s injuries required him to be transported to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and then to VCU Medical Center.  He sustained extensive injuries to his left eye, and several internal injuries including broken ribs.  Richards did not appear to have any visible injuries.

                             

Due to the presence of a large congregation of people at the scene, the Tappahannock Police Department was assisted by the Essex Sheriff’s Department with crowd control.  The scene was very chaotic and it was difficult to determine what had caused the altercation between the two men.  However, after further investigation conducted by Officer Tim Johnson, John Richards was arrested for Malicious Wounding.  He is currently being held without bond at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center in Saluda pending trial.  Mr. Thacker was treated and released after several days in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

 

The Tappahannock Police Department is also investigating another altercation that occurred on July 3 at the Tappahannock Greens Apartments.  At approximately 10:35 pm, officers were dispatched to 994A Winston Road, Tappahannock, for a fight in progress with weapons involved.  Upon arrival, officers observed two individuals who had been involved in an altercation, both persons having sustained severe wounds.  Investigation revealed the two individuals had both displayed knives and had cut each other about the face and body.  It was unable to determine the cause of the altercation.  Both subjects were transported to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital for treatment.  One subject was air-lifted to VCU Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.  The other subject was treated and released.

 

The police department has arrested and charged Michael F. Deyo, 49 of New Point with malicious wounding.  The identity of the other person involved is being withheld pending the completion of the investigation.  Additional charges are possible.
